FAQS

Do you accept insurance? We are happy to bill your insurance for you. If your insurance has chiropractic coverage, we will accept assignment for benefits. You will only be responsible for any deductible or co-pays.

Do you adjust kids? YES!!! We feel having your kids adjusted is imperative to their health. But adjusting a baby is different than adjusting an adult and is really just fingertip pressure. Improved nerve communications between your brain and your body can help everyone.

Will Dr. Kirkendall "twist" my neck? As an experienced chiropractor, Dr. Kirkendall uses many different chiropractic techniques to fit your personal preference. Dr. Kirkendall may offer a very gentle "hands on" adjustment. However, if you prefer a gentler touch, please tell us and she will gladly use a technique to suit you. We want you to be comfortable.

How long will my visit last? Your initial visit does take about 45 minutes to an hour to complete the paperwork, have your spinal exam, and take x-rays if needed. Subsequent visits are generally only 10-15 minutes or less. We make every effort to keep your visit as thorough as possible, but we also understand your time is important.

What type of adjusting techniques do you use? Dr. Kirkendall is trained in several different adjusting methods from a "hands-on" adjustment to using special instruments. Please let her know if you have a preference. Some of her techniques include:
Diversified
Cox Flexion/Distraction
Thompson
Gonstead

Can you adjust areas other than the spine? Yes! She can perform chiropractic adjustments to joints other than those of the spine, i.e., shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand/finger, hip, knee, ankle/foot/toe, and even your jaw . Examples of conditions treated by extremity adjustment: carpal tunnel syndrome, gait- or posture-related problems, and TMJ disorder.

I am healthy and don't have any pain. Why would I need to see a Chiropractor? We want to give our patients the best care available. You may feel great, but how well is everything inside you working? We recommend a Wellness Checkup for EVERYONE to determine if we can bring their health to even higher levels!

I am currently pregnant. Am I able to see a Chiropractor? Absolutely! During pregnancy is one of the most important times to get adjusted. There are few times in your life where your body is going through so many rapid changes as it is during this incredible time. Adjustments have been shown to increase one's immune system, which also keeps baby healthy! The pelvis can also be aligned for mom's comfort and to give baby the room it needs to grow and develop!

Don't Chiropractors only help with back pain and headaches? Although Chiropractic has been most commonly known for helping with neck pain, back pain, and headaches in the past, research is showing that Chiropractic can help with many areas of one's health. In fact, Chiropractic has been shown to improve immune system function, energy levels, digestive issues, high blood pressure, fertility issues, and many, many more. All without the use of drugs or surgery!

Why should I come back if I'm feeling fine? Many times when your spine is misaligned and not functioning at its best, the symptoms you may eventually feel won't show up until degenerative damage is done. Degenerative arthritis, to name just one condition, progresses "silently" and only becomes symptomatic when you've had a fall or trauma. Then you may take much longer to recover than if you'd corrected the spinal misalignment. If you are feeling fine-that's great news. You should come back so we can check if you are in good balance or if there is something there that could cause you to get your painful symptoms back again very soon. Continuing chiropractic care is important to prevent a relapse, avoid future problems, and to enjoy life to the fullest.

How long will it take until I feel better? some patients experience almost instant relief. For others the healing process may take longer, especially if you have been symptomatic for a long time or had severe trauma. Every patient recovers at their own pace. Factors which can affect the healing process include age, overall health, activity level, diet, and even your attitude.

Will I have to go for the rest of my life? No. This myth that once you start getting adjusted you have to go for the rest of your life is false. Some patients opt to continue with regular chiropractic check-ups, known as wellness care. These patients show up for their visits feeling great. If you are interested in staying well once you get well, talk to Dr. Kirkendall about wellness and preventive care.

Can I get chiropractic care if I've had back surgery? Yes. Surgery often causes areas above and below the involved area to work harder, which could lead to instability at these areas. These areas are usually the focus of your chiropractic care.

Will adjustments make my spine too loose? No. Only the areas that are restricted in motion or have decreased normal function in your spine will be adjusted.

What makes the "popping" sound? Joints are enclosed by a joint capsule, which is a thin, fibrous sac containing fluid. The sound from some adjustments is produced from this fluid and gas in the joint capsule shifting. It's similar to removing a suction cup. The sound is not a guide to the quality or value of an adjustment.

Can I adjust myself? No. Some people are able to make their joints "pop" but that does not indicate an adjustment has been made. Occasionally this may help to relieve minor tension for a very short moment of time, however generally what has occurred is an area above or below the misalignment is the area producing the "pop."
